At Home in Canada? Second Generation Negotiations in Racism and Citizenship
Supervisor: Dr. Audrey Kobayashi
My Master’s research explored the experiences of racism of second
generation Canadians of colour and its influence on feelings of belonging
in Canada. I used both questionnaires and focus groups to gather information.
The findings suggest that the second generation participants in my study
identify strongly with being Canadian. In fact, although the stories of
participants shared reflect paradoxical perceptions and experiences, they
also highlight new forms of belonging (in which the terms of belonging
differ).
