Financial AidSources of funding include: 1. Departmental Support. In 2009-2010, the minimum level of support from all sources for first year full-time graduate students is $14,000.00 for Master's and $18,000 for Ph.D. students. Support typically consists of a teaching/research assistantship and a Queen’s Graduate Award, but any combination of internal/external award may be used to reach this level. Students may be eligible for additional funding. 2. External Awards. Eligible applicants should apply for appropriate external awards including Ontario Graduate Scholarships, Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) Fellowships, Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Fellowships, International Development Research Council (IDRC) Doctoral Research Awards and Canadian Institute of Health (CIHR) Awards. Information on these and other awards may be obtained from the School of Graduate Studies, Queen's University. Be advised that most of the deadlines for these awards are in September or early October. 3. Queen's University Fellowships and Awards. Suitable applicants will be nominated by the Department for a variety of awards such as McLaughlin Scholarships, Dean's Aboriginal Students and Canadian Visible Minority Students Award and, for Quebec residents, Frank Carrel Fellowships. Most Fellowships are currently valued at $10,000. Students will also be considered for Ontario Graduate Scholarships for Science and Technology, Department of Geography Fellowships or Awards for Exceptional Merit. International students with a first class standing will be nominated for an International Tuition Award which will cover the fee differential between Canadian and International fees. |
